A Bremerton police officer was struck in the head by a 23-year-old man being arrested for warrants Sunday at the Sixth Street 7-Eleven in Bremerton.

While on patrol, the police officer recognized the man wanted for assault enter the 7-Eleven store at about 7:21 p.m., according to reports. As the man left the building, the officer advised the man he had warrants for his arrest, but the man pushed past the officer, shouting expletives. The man and officer engaged in a physical struggle, with the officer grabbing hold of the man’s sweatshirt, but the man pulled an arm from his shirt and struck the 58-year-old officer on the left side of his face with an open hand. Officers applied a Taser to the man three times after he broke free and tried to run away. He was finally handcuffed and booked into Kitsap County jail for investigation of assault.
