David Moseley, assistant secretary of Washington State Ferries, will present alternatives for the Kingston-Edmonds ferry route, followed by a question-and-answer session at a special meeting of the Kingston Citizens Advisory Council at 7 p.m. Monday, Sept. 29 at the North Kitsap Fire & Rescue headquarters station on Miller Bay Road.
Principal areas of the strategic plan anticipated to be discussed include reservations, higher fares during congested periods and improving transit connections.
According to the Kingston Ferry Advisory Committee, there is no plan to do an impact assessment of the strategies proposed; WSF will likely consider the input received at the public meetings enough to cover that requirement.
What’s being planned could substantially change how ferries are run on the Kingston-Edmonds route, according to the advisory committee, and it strongly encourages North Kitsap community members who feel the ferries are important to show up with a strong voice and ask questions about proposals for a reservation system, the disproportionate flow of ferry assets into other communities, higher fares, and having Kingston pick up a greater share of ferry costs.
Currently, WSF is going through the process of determining how they will operate in the future. This strategic plan could significantly change Kingston’s ferry service.
Moseley may also discuss other implications of this plan, including how they plan service capacity for the Kingston-Edmonds route, wait times, and alternatives for future level of service.
This KCAC meeting provides an opportunity for all North Kitsap citizens to have a convenient place to learn and comment on the Washington State Ferries strategic plan.
Normal KCAC monthly business will be condensed to allow more time for the discussion on ferry service. This meeting replaces the usual KCAC meeting held the first Wednesday of the month at the Kingston Community Center.
