The Washington State Parks and Recreation Commission has announced two additional free days for this year to replace the two lost during the COVID-19 closures.

Several days throughout the year are designated as free days, in which folks can visit state parks without needing a Discover Pass, but two were lost in April as parks stayed closed due to the pandemic.

The first makeup free day will be Sunday, Sept. 13 to celebrate Girl Scouts Love State Parks Weekend, which aims to get every girl scout to a state park. The second will be Saturday, Oct. 10 to recognize World Mental Health Day.

Visitors are still asked to recreate responsibly, which includes staying close to home, having a backup plan in case one park is too crowded, maintaining social distancing protocols and bringing along supplies such as soap, hand sanitizer and face masks.

The other remaining free days for state parks in 2020 are Aug. 25 (National Park Service birthday); Sept. 26 (National Public Land Day); Nov. 11 (Veterans Day); and Nov. 27 (Autumn Day).
