POULSBO — A running update on the weather and weather-related closures and delays in North Kitsap.

Thursday, 8:06 a.m.: All county-maintained roads have been cleared of trees and are now open.

Thursday, 7:09 a.m.: Sherman Hill Road is now open.

Thursday, 6:55 a.m.: NW Sherman Hill Road is closed between 2338 and 2680 Sherman Hill Road because of a downed tree, the county Department of Emergency Management reports.

NE Columbia Street in Suquamish is closed between Brockton Avenue NE and NE Lincoln Road because of downed trees.

Thursday, 5:07 a.m.: There’s an 80 percent chance of rain Thursday, according to the National Weather Service. The NWS forecast includes a high temperature of 41, a low of 30, with a 70 percent chance of snow Friday.

Wednesday, 1:30 p.m.: Several downed trees brought down electrical wires and/or blocked roads Wednesday, but all roads seem to be open in the Poulsbo area, including Big Valley and Bond roads, the Poulsbo Fire Department reported. Spokeswoman Jody Matson said her department received more than 25 calls for service Wednesday (the average is eight calls a day).

Wednesday, 10:50 a.m.: Puget Sound Energy reports scattered power outages throughout its North Kitsap service area, where tree branches are heavy with snow. All Poulsbo-based crews are in the area working to restore power.

Wednesday, 10:35 a.m.: Vinland Elementary School Principal Charles McCade reports that there are more than 6 inches of snow in Vinland.

Wednesday, 10:35 a.m.: North Kitsap Fire & Rescue crews are on the scene of wires down on Columbia Street just outside of Suquamish. Heavy snow continues to fall at the headquarters station. Travel on South Kingston Road is difficult between President Point and the South Kingston Road fire station.

Wednesday, 9:36 a.m.: North Kitsap Fire & Rescue reports on its Facebook page: “There’s about an inch of snow on the ground at our headquarters near Kountry Korners, and roads seem fine. However, we’re getting reports of much more difficult conditions further west and south.”

Wednesday, 9:16 a.m.: Suquamish Tribe government offices and the early learning center are closed.

Wednesday, 8:52 a.m.: A tree fell into wires at Widme and Totten roads. The wires are on fire. Emergency personnel dispatched.

Wednesday, 7:56 a.m.: All North Kitsap School District schools are closed.

Wednesday, 6:30 a.m.: North Kitsap schools will open two hours late Wednesday because of overnight snowfall, the North Kitsap School District reported. Buses will also run two hours late.

There will be no morning kindergarten, pre-school, breakfast program, out-of-district transportation, and secondary zero-hour classes. Check the school district website for school closure delay updates.

The Kitsap County Courthouse and all county offices will open two hours late Wednesday morning because of snow. Check the Inclement Weather Page, or call (360) 337-5775 after 9 a.m. for updates.

The county asks motorists to use extra caution Wednesday morning. Snow reports vary throughout the county but most places saw between 1-3 inches of wet snow overnight. Road crews are responding using the county’s snow and ice removal plan. Crews are working on priority 1 roads currently, and will move to priority 2 roads when finished with priority 1 roads.

The National Weather Service issued a winter weather advisory for the area. The service forecasts snow before 10 a.m., then rain with the snow level rising to 1,000 feet.

High temperatures will be near 41, with a south wind around 11 mph.
