A 23-year-old South Kitsap woman was arrested for drug possession on Friday afternoon at the Port Orchard WalMart store.
A WalMart loss prevention employee reported that a female patron had been in the store for approximately five hours.
The employee told emergency dispatch the female had gone into the men’s restroom at the store and was believed to be using drugs.
She was also reportedly “exposing herself” while in the area.
Kitsap County Sheriff’s deputies arrived on scene to question the suspect, identified as Alena Brierley, about the alleged reports.
According to the deputy’s report, the female appeared to be “tweaking” or under the influence of what was suspected to be methamphetamine.
She had very quick and jerking movements and couldn’t stand still or keep from manipulating her clothing.
Deputies also noted that Brierley’s behavior was a stark contrast to the people who were waiting at a bus stop immediately behind the her.
After an identity check was done with CenCom, deputies were advised to arrest Brierley for two outstanding two warrants — a felony for possession of methamphetamine from Mason County and a theft in third degree from Kitsap County.
Brierley was taken into custody and was asked if she had any “needles, knives, drugs or drug paraphernalia.”
Based on previous allegations of suspected drug use, deputies’ observations of current behavior and the bruising to her arms and brachial artery area, it was determined she might be in possession of drugs or paraphernalia.
Brierley told deputies she did have heroin in her pants pocket and then began kicking through her bag where she indicated that a black wallet contained needles.
While patting the woman down, deputies discovered dried blood on her left ankle foot area, which she denied was an injection site.
She verified that the heroin in her pocket was the only drugs she had.
She said she last used heroin the night before.
While en route to the jail, Brierley was observed making furtive movements and admitted that she’d removed something from her back pocket.
Upon further investigation, the item turned out to be a dime bag of heroin.
She was booked on the two warrants, possession of heroin and drug paraphernalia.
During a search of her belongings, officers located a small, black digital scale, commonly associated with the use/possession/distribution of illegal drugs and eight needles.
Brierley is being held on $10,000 bail at the Kitsap County Jail.
