A woman, who said she needed money to fill a prescription for her child, attempted to rob an East Bremerton convenience store Nov. 3.

No money was taken.

Kitsap County sheriff deputies responded to a possible robbery at the Daily Stop Grocery on the Brownsville Highway that was reported at 6:10 p.m.

A female employee told a deputy that she was the only person working when a man entered the store who she thought he was “acting strange” so she moved to where she could see him in the security mirror.

A loud noise came from the aisle the man was standing in, and the employee went over to assist him.

The man asked the employee if there was any “smelly cheese” and she responded that the cheese they had was displayed in front of him. As she was talking to the man, she heard the business owner yell by the front of the store. The employee ran to the front of the store and saw a woman holding cash. The employee said that she and the business owner attempted to obtain the cash from the woman’s hands as she tried to push them away. The suspect said she needed the money to get a prescription for her child and that she needed to leave to pick up her child from daycare.

The man told them to let the woman go and attempted to grab the suspect by the wrist. He then went outside and was not seen again. Another customer blocked the front entrance so the female suspect could not leave but she ran out the back door and left the area in a silver Volvo and headed toward State Route 303.

The license plate of the Volvo was obtained and the vehicle came up registered to a South Kitsap man.

The woman remains at large.
