Women’s group honors longtime members

Soroptimist International of Port Orchard (SIPO) honored members who had served in the organization for more than 20 years during a tea on May 13 at South Kitsap High School.

Soroptimist International of Port Orchard (SIPO) honored members who had served in the organization for more than 20 years during a tea on May 13 at South Kitsap High School.

Members honored at the event were Virginia Minor (47 years), Virginia Collins (41), Sharon McAffee (33), Claire Sheaver (32), Jessie Turner (31), Sharron King (25), Claire Swan (23) and Leslie Burnett (20). Linette Zimmerman, a 25-year member, was not able to attend.

The SKHS Pro Start culinary class prepared the food and refreshments.

The Port Orchard club was established in 1945 and has made contributions to individuals and the city through scholarships, awards and community projects, along with participating in community activities and educating the public about illiteracy, domestic violence, human trafficking and poverty.
