A construction worker at Naval Base Kitsap – Bangor was killed Friday afternoon when he was run over by heavy machinery.

The worker was identified as Brent S. Bartosovsky, 47, of Puyallup. He is survived by his wife and three children, according to a statement.

Bartovsky was employed by North Carolina-based Intermech, a sub-contractor of Kiewit Bridge and Marine Construction.

“Everyone at both Intermech and Kiewit extend our sympathy, thoughts and prayers to Brent’s family

and friends,” Kiewit spokesman Kent Grisham said in a prepared statement. The family has advised company officials that

funeral services are still pending.

At about 2:30 p.m. a front-end loader struck the man, said Grisham, which has district offices in Vancouver.

The fatality occurred in “lower base,” where multiple construction projects are underway.

Federal and state government have been notified and will conduct investigations, he said.

“We will cooperate fully with all those investigations in addition to our own internal safety investigation,” Grisham said.
