GIG HARBOR — Washington Sea Grant and the Gig Harbor BoatShop at Eddon Boatyard, 3805 Harborview Dr., are co-sponsoring a workshop on Saturday, Feb. 23, on marine corrosion protection.
The workshop is 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. and the cost is $60. Class size is limited to 24 person and pre-registration is advised. The hands-on class for marine professionals and boat owners offers an excellent introduction for technicians planning to enroll in the American Boat and Yacht Council (ABYC) corrosion certification course.
Topics covered include: galvanic corrosion of aluminum, steel and bronze; crevice corrosion of stainless steel; poultice corrosion of aluminum; corrosion–potential testing; potential monitoring systems for aluminum and bronze; advantages and disadvantages of different types of anodes; analysis of wood damage from too much zinc; controlled potential systems for wood boats; coatings for propellers and shafts; test methods for detecting AC and DC stray current; and more.
