The chief engineer aboard the ferry M/V Wenatchee died during the ferry’s sailing to Bainbridge Island Wednesday.
An official with Washington State Ferries said Sean Wall, a WSF employee for nearly 35 years, passed away while on watch on the Wenatchee at about 11:30 a.m. May 29.
Emergency crews from the Bainbridge Island Fire Department responded to the Bainbridge terminal after the Wenatchee arrived.
“Between WSF and first responder efforts they were unable to resuscitate Sean,” said WSF spokesman Dana Warr.
Several sailings between Bainbridge Island and Seattle were canceled because of the medical emergency, and runs on the route were reduced to one-boat service.
The Wenatchee returned to service just before 3:30 p.m. Wednesday.
