Planned maintenance on the Washington State Ferries will bring a smaller vessel to the Edmonds/Kingston route in the third week of December.

The Hyak will move to the Edmonds/Kingston to cover the route while the 188-car Spokane is out of service for routine maintenance, according to a press release from the Washington State Ferries. The Hyak’s vehicle capacity is 44 less than the Spokane. The Hyak will run on the Edmonds/Kingston route for about three weeks.

Ferry riders will see longer wait times and increased passenger traffic during busy commute times, the release stated.
