Repeat DUI offender arrested
Washington State Patrol troopers arrested a 23-year-old Bremerton man Sunday, March 30 after he failed to appear on three prior DUI charges.
The man had three outstanding DUI warrants after he was charged with DUI — one in 2004 and two in 2006 — and failed to show up for scheduled court appearances. Troopers contacted the man at his home where he was taken into custody and booked into Kitsap County Jail for the warrants with total bail set at $25,000. After his arrest, troopers learned that he had been arrested again for DUI in 2007 when he left the state briefly and moved to Colorado.
WSP recently began the first of many unannounced DUI warrant sweeps targeting individuals with multiple DUI warrants. Statistics show that repeat DUI offenders are more likely to re-offend and become involved in collisions that are likely to kill or injure people.
WSP will continue to follow up on those individuals who have warrants issued for DUI arrests. State patrol encourages those with outstanding warrants to contact the courts where they can be held accountable by the criminal justice system or run the risk of arrest during future warrant sweeps.
State patrol arrests 12 for drunk driving Friday
Washington State Patrol made 12 DUI arrests Friday, March 28 in Kitsap County.
Among those arrested was a 48-year-old Seabeck man who was arrested for his fifth DUI at more than four times the legal limit. He had just been released from Kitsap County Jail earlier that morning for his fourth DUI arrest where he was nearly five times the legal limit.
In recent weeks, WSP noticed an increase in collisions involving DUI drivers. As a result, WSP supervisors undertook a review of collision and BAC data to target high collision areas.
Friday night included shifting some resources and adding extra troopers, including one from Port Angeles, to work local roadways. These additional resources will be used Saturday night and next weekend as well.
An additional four troopers will be assigned to Kitsap County in mid-April to provide extra DUI enforcement.
