The Washington State Patrol recently welcomed 16 additional troopers to District 8 — which consists of Kitsap, Mason, Jefferson, Clallam, Grays Harbor, Pacific and Wahkiakum counties.
Three of those troopers transferred from other areas within the state, while the remaining 13 were new hires who recently graduated with the 95th Washington State Patrol Basic Training Academy class in mid-April.
District 8 had 12 vacant positions for road troopers in early 2008. With the addition of the new troopers and transfers, District 8 is left with only two vacancies – both within Kitsap County.
District 8 is pleased to introduce the new additions to Kitsap County:
Aaron Bartlett has been with WSP for one year. He is from Port Orchard and graduated from Peninsula High School. He worked at the Tacoma Narrows Bridge for four months as a trooper cadet. He is a recent graduate of the WSP Academy.
Todd Bartolac has been with WSP for 18 months. He is from Eatonville where he graduated from Eatonville High School. He attended Colorado Mt. College and Central Washington University. Prior to his career with WSP, he served in the United States Marine Corps, 0341 Infantry.
In addition, Trooper Bartolac was presented the Core Values award. This award is presented to the trooper cadet who most typifies the Training Division Core Values during training, which include honesty, integrity, team-orientation, attention to detail, adaptability, self-discipline, performance-driven, professionalism, officer safety and sense of urgency.
Trooper Bartolac also received the Top Driving award, which recognizes the highest level of proficiency with respect to driving skills and techniques, decision making and mind-set, and steady and constant improvement through each phase of driver’s training.
Michael Dominguez is from Olympia, where he graduated from River Ridge High School. He served in the Navy prior to his employment with WSP and was last stationed at Naval Base Kitsap-Bangor. He is a recent graduate of the WSP Academy
Ryan Los has been with WSP for eight months. He is from Gig Harbor and graduated from Peninsula High School. He also is a graduate of Western Washington University.
In addition, Trooper Los received the Top Defensive Tactics and Fitness award, which recognizes the highest level of tenacity and drive used to excel physically, which is displayed by a cadet during physical fitness training, control and defensive tactics training and their command presence.
Justin Medcalf has been with WSP for eight months. He is from Spokane where he graduated from Central Valley High School. He attended Spokane Community College. Prior to his career with WSP, he was a reserve officer for Airway Heights Police Department for 18 months.
In addition, Trooper Medcalf received the Top Overall Cadet award which recognizes the trooper cadet who demonstrates great overall courage to overcome obstacles, unwavering dedication to stay focused on reaching their goals and their ability to give 100 percent in every aspect of training.
Clint Thomas was hired with WSP in March 2006. He is from Poulsbo, where he attended North Kitsap High School. He attended Washington State University. He is currently in the United States Marine Corps Reserves, where he served one tour in Iraq. He is a recent graduate of the WSP Academy.
