POULSBO — Bremerton Symphony Youth Orchestra will take over Poulsbo City Hall on Dec. 18.

In the spirit of the season, the council will lend its chambers to the Bremerton Symphony Youth Orchestra for a performance immediately following the council’s weekly meeting.

“It’s a gift to the community from the city,” said Councilwoman Connie Lord, who also sits on the board of the Bremerton Symphony.

“It’s not costing us anything,” Lord said. “It’s win-win, and it gives (the youth orchestra) some exposure up in the north end.”

The performance will feature varying lineups from the youth orchestra, all performing for a total of approximately 30 minutes.

“We are playing holiday favorites,” Musical Director Michael Woods said.

Woods said three groups will perform: brass, woodwinds and string.

“The string ensemble will have about eight students, the brass quartet and the woodwind group will also have eight students in it,” Woods said.

The performance will be broadcast on BKAT. The performance time is tentative, but Lord estimated that the council could finish its business by 7:45 p.m.

The City Council meeting will begin at 7 p.m. Dec. 18. The agenda is largely procedural with some last-minute budget corrections, updates on city projects and the final approval of the 2014 budget.

The youth orchestra is an extension of the Bremerton Symphony Association, a 71-year-old non-profit comprised of a variety of symphonic ensembles and supported by volunteer musicians. The association also includes a symphony and a chorale.
