SOUTH KITSAP — The Yukon Do It half-marathon “summer edition” race will take place July 8 over one of the most scenic courses in the area, said race organizer Ginger Gruber-Johnson.
The half-marathon race starts in downtown Port Orchard and traverses over five fairly flat miles, she said.
Up to this year, the race has been conducted only over winter, Johnson said, who started the Yukon race in 2010. She is resuming duties as race director this year.
“Miles 5 to 8 have some small hills that descend back to mile 8,” Johnson said. “That’s where you once again run mile 8 to 13, which is virtually flat, to the finish line. Runners travel along the scenic waterfront for over 10 miles of the race.”
Money raised from the event will go to several charitable organizations and programs, including Leukemia, MADD and Back Pack for Kids food program, she added. The winter race raised more than $10,000 for charity.
“Registration will be opening soon,” Johnson said. “This is a limited race due to the road. Only 400 runners are allowed for the race, which will likely sell out.”
The summer edition race, set for 8 a.m. to 12:01 p.m., is $60 per competitor. For more information, email Runamokracing2018@gmail.com or visit the Yukon Do It website..
