Arna Mathisen

Arna Mathisen died peacefully on May 22, 2016, while at Martha and Mary Care Facility.
She was born on Oct. 7, 1920 in Lierfjord, Norway to Ragnar and Aslaug Nordnes. She was the oldest of three children.
In 1944, she married widower Olav Mathisen, who had two children, Liv and Mathis. She and Olav moved to Poulsbo in 1947 bringing Mathis and their young son, Herman. Liv remained in Norway.
Arna and Olav made their home in Poulsbo where they raised their boys, Mathis, Herm, Ray, and Terry.
She was a member of First Lutheran Church and a devoted volunteer at the Sons of Norway. She loved to dance, to bake, to spend time at the Sons of Norway, and to be with her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Sverre and Birger Nordnes; husband, Olav; and son, Mathis. Arna is survived by her sons Herman, Ray (Cheri), and Terry (Tami); and four granddaughters. Lauren, Erin, Kirsten, and Amber.
She has many relatives still in Norway and one in Canada.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 11, at First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo. An online memorial can be viewed at www.poulsbomortuary.com.
