Ava L. Crouse, 95
Former North Kitsap resident Ava L. Crouse died July 31, 2004 in Edmonds. She was 95.
Crouse was born to William G. and Elizabeth (Horning) Hallowell on Aug. 5, 1908 in Swan, Iowa.
She married Fred Estes Crouse on June 3, 1931 in Stevenson.
Crouse graduated from Roundup High School in Montana and Billings Nursing School in Montana with a nursing degree in 1930.
She worked as a hospital nurse in Port Gamble from 1930 through World War II, worked as a private-duty nurse later and then as a housewife. Crouse and her husband, who worked at the Port Gamble Mill, lived there until 1963. The couple later relocated to Scenic Drive on Hood Canal.
Crouse was a Post Matron of the Priscilla Chapter, Order of the Eastern Star and avid gardener and enjoyed camping, fishing and bowling.
She is survived by her daughters Donna M. (Alf) Eikum of Enumclaw and Yvonne (Richard) Johnson of Edmonds; five grandchildren; and six great-grandchildren.
Crouse was preceded in death by her husband Fred Estes Crouse; infant son Freddie Crouse; brothers William, Wendell, Russell and Leigh Hallowell; and sister Mary Gooden.
At her request, there will be no services.
