Bernard Merle Martinson, 82
Bernard Martinson of Poulsbo died on Nov. 2 at Harborview Medical Center. He was 82.
Born on July 15, 1926 in Port Gamble to Berger and Myrtle Martinson, he was born and raised with the homesteading family and early settlers Mikal and Martha Martinson. He attended North Kitsap High School until enlisting in the U.S. Army and served during WWII.
He married Shirley Gervais on May 29, 1948, in Poulsbo. For more than 40 years, he was the owner of BM Martinson Construction Co. in the Kitsap County area. He was a member of the Elks, Sons of Norway, First Lutheran Church and was a Scout Master of Troop 571.
Martinson enjoyed dancing and Scandinavian music. In his youth he enjoyed riding motorcycles with his brother and friends.
He is preceded in death by his sister Elaine Ritter. Surviving are his wife, Shirley of Poulsbo; sons, Donn (Valerie) of Poulsbo, David of Suquamish; daughter Christine Wilson (Gordon) of Bainbridge Island; brother Vernon (Pat) of Poulsbo; six grandchildren, seven great grandchildren and a large extended family.
A memorial service will be held Saturday, Nov. 8 at 2 p.m. at The Stone Chapel Poulsbo Mortuary.
