Carol Ann (Downing) Mitcham, 95, of Bainbridge Island, WA. passed away on November 25, 2022, after a short battle with kidney cancer.
Carol was born in Spokane, WA on November 10, 1927, to Leslie (Bus) and Minerva Bess Downing. She was the oldest of four children, her brothers were Richard, Patrick and Michael.
Carol graduated from John Rogers high school in Spokane in 1946. She met her husband, John B. Mitcham, in Spokane after the end of WWII and were married on October 4, 1946.
Carol and John had four children, Craig, Larinda, Leslie, and Meagan. They lived in Spokane, Kalispell, Mount Vernon, and Endicott during their 65-year marriage. Carol moved to Bainbridge Island after John died. Carol worked in the Skagit County Superior Court Clerks office in Mount Vernon, WA for over 20 years.
Carol was a dedicated wife and mother. She was a gracious hostess, dear friend to many, talented cook, gardener, seamstress, homemaker, and was passionate about her politics and bridge. She taught her children well.
Carol was predeceased by her parents, siblings, son Craig E. Mitcham, and husband John B. Mitcham. She is survived by her daughters Larinda (Bruce) Bjork, Leslie (Craig) Cloaninger, and Meagan (Brad) Stockman, daughter-in law Linda Mitcham, as well as 8 grandchildren and 11 great grandchildren.
