Cecily Nyberg, 96

Former Poulsbo resident Cecily Nyberg died June 10, 2005 in Cody, Wyo. She was 96.

She was born to Fred Kahl and Mary Elizabeth Reilly.

She married Harold Nyberg on Dec. 13, l937 in Spokane.

Nyberg was raised on the farm between Cheney and Spangle and attended a one room county school. She attended high school in Spangle and Cheney and graduated from Cheney High School in 1927. Nyberg attended Cheney Normal School (now Eastern Washington University) and graduated from Washington State College (now Washington State University) with a B.A. degree in home economics in 1931.

She taught school in eastern Washington, Outlook, Veradale, and Republic before her marriage in 1937. After her marriage to a United States Forest Service Ranger, they moved to Sisters, Ore., where her daughters were born.

In March 1945, the family moved to Glacier and in January 1954, they moved to Quilcene.

Nyberg began teaching home ec in Port Townsend the fall of 1954 and continued to teach for four years after her husband retired in 1969 and they moved to Poulsbo. She lived in Poulsbo for 35 years.

She was a member of Rebekah’s, Eastern Star, Delta Kappa Gamma (Women’s Educators) and the Poulsbo Senior Center.

Nyberg enjoyed reading and helping at the Poulsbo Senior Center.

She is survived by daughters Janice Nyberg Kwiatkowski of Powell, Wyo. and Mary Nyberg McArthur; five grandchildren; and five great-granddaughters.

She was preceded in death by her parents Fred Kahl and Mary Elizabeth Kahl; brothers Henry Kahl and Edmund Kahl; and sister Delena Wyles.

Cremation has taken place in Cody, Wyo. Ashes are to be scattered on the Spangle Farm. There will be no services.
