Clifford Irving Williams died Jan. 21 at his home in Eureka, Calif. He was born April 19, 1936, in Poulsbo to Clifford and Muriel (Iverson) Williams. He was a great-grandson of Peter and Joseph Iverson who established the Kitsap County Herald. He grew up in Poulsbo, was a confirmed member of Grace Lutheran Church and graduated from North Kitsap High School with the class of 1954.
After graduation he worked for the Washington State Ferries before enlisting in the Air Force. He served in the Air Force from 1956-60 which included a tour of duty in Morocco. Following his military service, he moved to California and spent two years with the San Francisco Police Department. In 1963 he enrolled in the California Highway Patrol Academy retiring in 1992. During this time, he completed his degree in family counseling with a bachelor’s degree from Humboldt State College and a master’s from the University of San Francisco. After retirement he worked for the Brinks Security System until shortly before his death.
Williams is survived by his wife Walda; his son Andy Williams (Kim) and grandchildren Joshua, Caleb and Sara of North Bend; daughter Julie Johnson (Chris, deceased), and grandchildren Rachel, Erik, Zoe and Anna of Vaughn; and three step-children John Dornellas, Anna Dornellas and Arthur Bromberg of California.
He also leaves his mother, Muriel Williams of Poulsbo; three brothers: Jon Williams (Dottie) of Plainview, Ar., Michael Williams (Diane) of Lynnwood and Peter Williams of Poulsbo; sister Sally Williams of Seattle; his former wife Jani Williams of Vaughn; and several nieces and nephews. At his request there will be no services.
