Derall Raymond Simonis, 72, of Gresham, Ore., passed away on April 26, 2014.
He was born on Oct. 11, 1941 in Oakland, Calif., to Derall George and Ruth Ellen (Adams) Simonis. He married his high school sweetheart, Alice Joan Oien, on Feb. 28, 1958 in Poulsbo, Wash.
Derall worked in various positions over the years, including opening the Gresham U-Haul Store and retiring from GTE in 2002. He spent 20 years with the Gresham High School Football Chain Gang, was a coach with Gresham Little League and also was a member of the Elks Lodge. He was a family man and enjoyed hunting, camping and watching family sporting events, and loved the annual Memorial Day family reunions.
He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Alice Simonis of Gresham, Ore.; son, Darin Simonis (Cheryl) of Gresham, Ore.; daughters, Barbara Giusto (Dennis) of Portland, Ore., and Suzanne Clem (Stuart) of Pendleton, Ore.; brother, Ronald Simonis of Poulsbo; grandchildren, Cristina (Ryan), Amber (Tyler), Nick (Kristy), Jessica, Jayme, Carson and Delaney; and great-grandchildren Avery, Nolan, Evan, Gavin, Jackson, Connor, Brooklyn, Payton and Cohen.
Derall was preceded in death by his parents; son, Derall Simonis Jr. in 1975; and brother, Terry Simonis in 1981.
A celebration of Derall’s life will be held at 2 p.m. on May 2 at Blackberry Hall at McMenamin’s Edgefield, 2126 SW Halsey, Troutdale, OR 97060.
