Desi Avery Sr.

Desi Ricardo Avery Sr. of Everett died July 14, 2006 from injuries suffered in a car accident near Anaconda, Mont. The former Poulsbo and Bremerton resident was 51.

Mr. Avery was born Dec. 26, 1954 in Battleboro, N.C. to Verna (Walker) and Warren Avery. He graduated from Edgecomb Technical High School in Rocky Mount, N.C. in 1973 and joined the Army soon after, serving until 1975. He married his wife of 32 years Wanza (Williams) Avery on Dec. 28, 1973 in Everett.

After being discharged, Mr. Avery worked in Atlantic City area as a cook and in the Atlantic City Fire Department. He moved to Washington in 1990 and was hired by a number of Alaskan fishing vessels as a cook and chief steward.
