Donald R. Jennings, 63
The Rev. Donald R. Jennings died on Aug. 1 at his home in Poulsbo, in the presence of his beloved wife, Carolyn and their son, Jeffrey.
Jennings was born in Seattle on Aug. 24, 1943. He graduated from Highline High School in the Burien area. He served in the U.S. Army from June 1961 through June 1964 and received computer training at Fort Huachuca, Ariz., Fort Monmouth, N.J., and the University of Arizona. He worked as a computer programmer in Dayton, Ohio, Phoenix, Ariz., and Seattle as a systems analyst.
In 1976 Jennings graduated and was ordained from Unity School of Christianity in Unity Village, Missouri. He served as minister at churches in Port Angeles and Kingston; Topeka, Kansas; Omaha, Neb.; and was founding Minister of Unity Center in Anchorage, Alaska.
On July 24 Jennings had the honor of being presented the “2009 Charles Fillmore Award” in Poulsbo by the Association of Unity Churches International, honoring his visionary leadership over the years.
He loved people, the Unity movement teachings, and he lived life to the fullest. He enjoyed dancing, traveling, woodworking, kayaking, and bird-watching in his later years.
Jennings is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carolyn (Teel) Jennings, from Bremerton; daughter, the Rev. Kimberly A.J. Giacometti of Saint Joseph, Mo.; son, D. Jeffrey Jennings and wife Nola of Phoenix, Ariz.; sister, Patricia and husband Danny of Everett; brother, Steve and wife MaryJane, of Mariposa, Calif.; granddaughter, Emily Giacometti; cousins in the Christophersen family, Seattle; nieces, nephews, and many other dear ones who ‘adopted’ Jennings as part of their family.
He was preceded in death by his mother, Iva Lucille Green; father, Frederick Carl Jennings; and his step-father, Walter Jensen.
A celebration of life will be held Sept. 13 at 2 p.m. at the Sons of Norway Lodge in Poulsbo overlooking Liberty Bay where he loved to kayak.
Jennings donated his body to Genesis, a medical education and research institute in Memphis, Tenn., and then will be cremated with the ashes being spread at Unity Village, Mo. in the rose gardens he loved so much.
