Dorothy Almond

Dorothy B. Almond died July 17 at the Manor Care Center in Tacoma. She was 88.

Almond was born on July 7, 1922 in Wichita, Kansas.

During World War II, she worked at Cessna Aircraft where she volunteered to demonstrate that women could perform aircraft manufacturing jobs. She was one of the first women machinists.

Dorothy was preceded in death by her husbands John Clayton Almond and Axel Noll; and her daughter Dana Sue Almond.

She is survived by her sons John Edward Almond of Tacoma and James Winston Almond of Poulsbo; daughter Cheryl Marie Almond of Sun Lakes, Ariz.; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Almond’s funeral will be at 2 p.m. Sunday, July 25, at the First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo, with a reception to follow.
