Duane Miller

Duane Miller of Poulsbo died Sept.15 at Orchard Pointe Memory Care in Port Orchard after suffering from Alzheimer’s. He was 74.

He was born on April 29, 1935, in Mitchell, S.D., to August and Clara Miller.

Miller served in the U.S. Navy from 1952-55 before he graduated from University of Nebraska in 1962 and earned a Ph.D. in education in 1974. He married Karen Thompson on Nov. 28, 1958, in Seattle.

He worked as a school superintendent and an educator in Nebraska until 1975. He also built and constructed five homes and two garages from 1984-1994.

Miller taught Sunday school and enjoyed being outside. He also enjoyed spending his time with his dog, Teddy, the Sheba Innu.

Surviving is his beloved wife, Karen of Poulsbo; brother, Delbert of Bainbridge Island; sister Donna Jones of Colorado Springs, Colo.; and eight nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be at noon Sept. 27 at Nelson Park, 317 NE Lindvig Way, Poulsbo.
