Esther Cecelia Fossum, 86

Esther Cecelia Fossum of Walla Walla died July 22, 2004 in Walla Walla. She was 86.

Fossum was born to Jorgen and Ester Elinora Sjodahl Ruud in Halden, Norway on Oct. 13, 1917.

She married Einar Fossum on Aug. 3, 1940 in Oslo, Norway.

Fossum was educated in Norway.

She was very active in the Sons of Norway organization. She and her husband built and operated the Chalet Motel in Minot, N.D. until 1994. She was a dental assistant and seamstress.

Fossum loved children and volunteered at children’s summer camps. She also enjoyed sewing and making many of the clothes that were worn by her children. She also enjoyed cooking and Norwegian cuisine was her speciality.

She is survived by her sons Jarl A. (Kaye) Fossum of Walla Walla and Thore (Marje) Fossum of Poulsbo; sister Eva Lindstad of Oslo, Norway and four grandchildren.

Fossum was preceded in death by her husband Einar Fossum; two sisters; and three brothers.

A memorial service will be held at a later date at First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo. Interment will be a private family event at First Lutheran Church Cemetery in Poulsbo.
