Eugene (Gene) Joseph McGowan of Albany, California passed away on September 30, 2018 at the age of 90. Gene was born on October 15, 1927. A graduate of Albany High School, he went on to receive a Bachelor’s Degree from St. Mary’s College. Gene served as a Merchant Marine directly out of high school, and would later serve again in the Counter Intelligence Corps during the Korean War. Gene’s professional career was with the Chevron Corporation (Standard Oil) for 39 years. He lived the majority of his life in California, moving to Poulsbo, Washington in 2003. Gene enjoyed baseball and golf throughout his life. Gene is preceded in death by his first wife, Suzanne Dean McGowan; parents, Eugene Joseph and Joan (Bunyan) McGowan; and son, Terrance McGowan. On May 15, 2005 he married Nancy Adams. In his later years, Gene enjoyed being a docent at the Bloedel Reserve on Bainbridge Island, Washington. Gene’s memory will live on with his wife Nancy McGowan; daughters Jan Killips, Molly Measer and husband, Mark Measer; sister Joan Glick; and Gene and Suzanne’s grandchildren Brian, Kimberly, Benjamin, Audrey and Emma. A memorial mass will be held at St. Olaf Catholic Church in Poulsbo on November 10th at 12:30pm.
