Fred “Bunker” Hill, 64
Fred “Bunker” Hill of Port Ludlow died March 1, 2005 in Seattle. He was 64.
Hill was born to Fred W. and Marvel (Schonewald) Hill in Seattle on July 24, 1940.
He married Sandra “Sandy” Boro in 1963 in Long Beach, Calif.
Hill was raised and educated in North Kitsap. He graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1958 and from the University of Washington in 1963.
He served in the U.S. Coast Guard while he was in college, achieving the rank of Port Securityman First Class.
Hill operated Fred Hill Materials and Kitsap Ready Mix much of his life. Ten years ago, he left the family business to start his own Bankrock Corporation.
While in college, he rowed crew and later became a lifetime member of the UW Alumni Association. He served as state vice president of the Jaycees, and was a member of North Kitsap Rotary and president of the Washington Aggregate and Concrete Association. He enjoyed working with the youth in North Kitsap and was active in Little League, Babe Ruth, the North Kitsap football chain crew and was a founding member and on the board of North Sound Bank.
Hill is survived by his wife Sandy (Boro) Hill of the family home; sons A.J. and Brady; brothers Peter J. and James F. Hill; and sisters Nancy J. Bryant and Suzanne Hill.
He was preceded in death by daughter Katie; and sister Mary.
A gathering for friends and family will be held from 1-3 p.m. March 13 at Kiana Lodge. Parking is at the Clearwater Casino beginning at 12:30 p.m. with transportation to the lodge. Parking for the handicapped and elderly is at the lodge.
Cremation will take place at the Cherry Grove Crematory in Poulsbo. Arrangements are under the direction of Lewis Funeral Chapel. Memorial gifts may be sent to the Bunker Hill Memorial Fund c/o Brent Stenman, West Sound Bank. P.O. Box 405, Bremerton, WA 98337.
