Gerald Richard Orr

Gerald Richard Orr, died on Sept. 17 due to complications of a heart attack suffered on Sept. 4. He was 72.

Orr was born on Oct. 15, 1936, to Vivian (Watson) and William Orr in Cripple Creek, Colo. They moved to Bainbridge Island where Orr attended school, played football, and played the saxophone in the school band. He graduated from Bainbridge High in 1955.

In 1958 he married Linda Larson, his wife of 30 years. They raised Alan and Angela on Bainbridge Island until 1969, and then moved to Kingston. Orr was a banker for American Marine Bank for more than 30 years, retiring as vice president. He partnered with his good friend Rick Bjornson opening Video For Less in the 1980s, and upon retirement from the bank worked for Bjornson as a bookkeeper at Kingston Thriftway. Orr was a baseball coach, volunteer EMT, member of the Kingston Yacht Club, in the Rotary Club, and was a fire commissioner.

In his younger years he enjoyed golfing and fishing, and in more recent years shooting his pistols.

He is preceded in death by his parents William and Vivian; brother William Jr.; and sister Barbara Zinn. Surviving are Orr’s son Alan (Kim) of Kingston; daughter Angela (Kenny) Crawford of Kingston; sister Doris Selfors of Gig Harbor; seven grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces.

In lieu of flowers, donations be made to the Kingston Christian Church Benevolent fund, PO Box 31 Kingston, WA 98346.

A memorial service will be 2 p.m. at Kingston Christian Church, 11255 NE East 2nd Street, Kingston.
