Jack L. Thornton, 61
Poulsbo resident Jack L. Thornton died Oct. 14, 2004 in Poulsbo. He was 61.
He was born to Rev. Jack and Frances (Rohrer) Thornton in Berwick, Iowa on Jan. 18, 1943.
Thornton served in the U.S. Navy from August 1960 to February 1964 with an honorable discharge. He was a past member of the North Kitsap Amateur Radio Club. He owned a business called Shoestring Antennas and designed and built amateur radio antennas which he sold all over the world.
He was employed at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard from 1973 to 1980 and the Trident Refit Facility from 1980 to his retirement in March 2004.
Thornton enjoyed fishing, hunting, camping, gardening and computers and his radios. He also enjoyed the sport of black powder shooting.
He is survived by his wife Hazel; son Steven Thornton of Pomeroy; daughter Rena Ping of Bremerton; step-son James Williams of Lynnwood; step-daughter Janet Savage of Poulsbo; brothers Jim Thornton of Renton and Tom Thornton of San Diego, Calif.; sister Yvonne Clark of Bend, Ore.; 11 grandchildren; one great-grandchild; and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and brother William E. Thornton.
There will be no services at his request. Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society or Harrison Hospital Oncology Wing.
