James A. Brix, 91
Poulsbo resident James Alexander Brix died Jan. 28, 2005. He was 91.
Brix was born to James and Edith Brix in Seattle on Aug. 30, 1913.
He married Shirley Forsberg in February 1935.
Brix graduated from Queen Anne High School in 1932 and from the University of Washington in 1954 with a B.A. in business administration, Summa Cum Laude. He was awarded the President’s Medal at graduation for having the highest grade point. He was also offered a Rhodes Scholarship and was a member of Phi Beta Kappa and business honoraries Alpha Kappa Psi, Beta Gamma Sigma and Beta Alpha Psi. He earned the Alpha Kappa Psi High Scholarship Award and was a lifetime member of the University of Washington Alumni Association.
Brix was called to active duty in 1939 and was stationed at Camp Roberts in California, where he trained troops in the 3rd Infantry Division. After 21 months in the Fitzsimmons Army Hospital, he was medically retired in 1944 as a Captain of the U.S. Army.
Brix and his wife lived in California and Colorado during his time in the military, then lived in the Seattle area before moving to Poulsbo in the summer of 1948, when he retired from Seattle City Light. They lived in Poulsbo for 55 years, where they raised their three children.
He was a Certified Public Accountant in 1954 and was Kitsap County’s first CPA, retiring in 1986. He was a member of the Washington Society of Certified Public Accounts and American Society of Certified Public Accounts.
Brix was a member of the Poulsbo Chamber of Commerce, Lion’s Club, Masonic Lodge and Poulsbo Yacht Club and was affiliated with the American Legion, Military Officers of America and Disabled Veterans of America.
He was affiliated with First Lutheran Church and was the church treasurer for many years.
Brix is survived by his wife Shirley; son Jim (Mary Ellen) Brix Jr.; daughters Joan (Jack) Carter and Julee (George) Barber; nine grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A private interment will take place at Woodlawn Memorial Cemetery in Bremerton. A memorial service will take place at 2 p.m. Feb. 3 at First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo.
