James D. Roberts, 66

James Douglas Roberts of Poulsbo died March 31, 2005 in Poulsbo. He was 66.

Roberts was born to Oren Douglas and Katherine Delores (Wester) Roberts in Pittsburg, Kan. on July 25, 1938.

He married Maureen B. Robards on Dec. 18, 1989 in Westminster, London, United Kingdom.

Roberts graduated from Manhattan High School in Manhattan, Kan. in 1956, Kansas State University in Manhattan, Kan. in 1960 and the University of Kansas School of Medicine in Lawrence, Kan. in 1964.

He served in the U.S. Navy from 1964-1995, achieving the rank of Captain in the medical corps. As a surgeon for the medical corps, Roberts’ stations included the USS Nimitz, Camp Pendleton and Camp Lajune. He received the Navy Unit Commendation, Humanitarian Service Medal and Navy Commendation Medal.

Roberts enjoyed music, fly fishing, fly tying, hunting, reading, political science, travel photography, the stock market, computers and cooking. He was an Eagle Scout and a member of Ducks Unlimited.

He was a Roman Catholic.

Roberts is survived by his wife Maureen B. Robards of Poulsbo; father Oren Douglas Roberts of Round Rock, Texas; sons Scott Armstrong (Amy) Roberts of Kent and Patrick Oren (Keri) Roberts of Bremerton; daughter Elizabeth Ann (Brian) Roberts of Bremerton; sister Delores Ann Roberts-Gish of Round Rock, Texas; and six grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother Katherine Delores (Wester) Roberts.

A memorial service is scheduled for 7 p.m. April 11 at the Jackson Park Navy Chapel. Cremation will take place at the Cherry Grove Crematory in Poulsbo.
