James “Jack” E. Hill Sr. died Dec. 3, 2006 in Bremerton. He was 83.
Mr. Hill was a World War II Navy veteran who served his country from Oct. 7, 1941 until Oct. 10, 1947, as an electrician. He was involved in five naval engagements against the Japanese in the Philippines. Aafter getting out of the Navy, Mr. Hill went to work for 19 years at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard where he was a carpenter, draftsman and architect. He retired in 1970.
He was heavily involved with Pentecostal Evangelical Church, becoming a superintendent for nine years with PEC Ministry, administrative minister and was the national and international general bishop for 22 years. He served as pastor of Central Valley Church and was a member of the Bremerton Revival Center.
Mr. Hill enjoyed his work with the church and helping people. He was a constant at senior fairs where he had a table for 15 years making crafts.
Mr. Hill was born to Charles E. Sr. and Alberta D. (Lusk) Hill on April 21, 1923, in Tuolumme, Calif. He married Agnes Sofia Apeland on Jan. 24, 1945, in Bremerton where the couple made their home for the past 61 years.
He is survived by his wife of the family home; sons Jim (Betty) Hill Jr. of Port Orchard, Gordon (Eve) Hill of Bremerton, and Ron (Dawn) Hill of Mitchel, S.D.; daughters Kathy (Mark) Logue of Bremerton and Berty (Bruce) Monroe of Everett; 16 grandchildren and 21 great-grandchildren.
A viewing is scheduled for 9 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 9, at Lewis Funeral Chapel with a memorial service at 2:30 p.m. followed by a private burial at Forest Lawn Cemetery in Bremerton. An online memorial is available at www.lewischapel.com.
