James E. Owens of Poulsbo died May 11 in Poulsbo. He was 95.
Owens was born July 23, 1913, in Oakesdale to parents James and Amy Owens. His family lived in Toppenish before moving to Seattle in 1928. Owens graduated from Lincoln High School in 1933. He then joined the CCC’s and was stationed at Camp Snyder on the Olympic Peninsula.
Ownes married Elsie Kainulainen on July 3, 1948, at Our Savior’s Lutheran in Bremerton. The couple met while employed at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard and enjoyed 51 years of marriage.
He was a pipefitter at PSNS for 32 years, retiring in 1971.
He was an active member of Poulsbo Kiwanis Club, Poulsbo Sons of Norway and attended Christ Memorial Church.
Owens was preceded in death by wife Elsie. Survivors include children Kathy (Rick) Rowland of Poulsbo, James III (Trudy)Owens of Poulsbo, and Amy (Ken) Corbley of Bothell; grandchildren, Kyle Rowland of Bothell, Kelly Partyke of Poulsbo, Kasey Thibeault of Kingston, Garrett Owens of Bellingham, and Brett Owens of Seattle; great-grandchildren, Titus James Partyke and Ailey Thibeault.
Owens’ memorial service is 2 p.m. May 21 at Christ Memorial Church in Poulsbo. Donations may be made to Hospice of Kitsap County.
