Jason David Fry of Silverdale died on Cathedral Peak in South Africa on Oct. 9, 2006, after he slipped and fell 80 feet down a cliff while on a hiking trip. The 20-year- old was serving on a mission for the Church of Latter-day Saints in Ladysmith, South Africa, where he volunteered much of his time in local orphanages. He was spending an off-day on the mountain with a group of missionaries who decided to have a picnic.
Mr. Fry was born Sept. 21, 1986, in Provo, Utah, to Paul and Christina (Postle) Fry. He graduated in 2005 from Central Kitsap High School where he was an honor student. Mr. Fry was an Eagle Scout, loved playing soccer and had a passion for computers. He did an internship at Puget Sound Naval Shipyard, and prior to leaving for his two-year mission in May 2006, attended Brigham Young University-Idaho.
Mr. Fry is survived by his parents of the family home in Silverdale; sister Julie Fry of Chicago; brothers Robert, Brandon and Ryan, all of Silverdale; and grandparents Donald and Shirley Fry of Bremerton and Richard and Maria Postle of Newbury Park, Calif.
Visitation is scheduled for 6-8 p.m. Friday, Oct. 20, at the Silverdale Stake Center of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 9256 Nels Nelson Road Northwest, Bremerton. A funeral service is scheduled for 11 a.m. Saturday, Oct. 21, at the church. Private internment to follow at Mountain View Cemetery.
