Jeff Crawford of Suquamish, WA, died on Wednesday, March 8, 2023, at Franciscan Hospice House in University Place following a brief battle with pancreatic cancer. He was a beloved son, brother, husband, father, uncle, and friend to so many!
Jeff was born on May 19, 1966, in Palo Alto, CA. He moved as a young child to Washington state and attended elementary school at The Bush School in Seattle. Following a move to Bainbridge Island in middle school, he graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1984. His time at BHS left him with a tight group of lifelong friends as well as his wife, Michelle, who was a classmate. Jeff graduated from the University of Washington with a degree in Political Science and promptly opened a record store, Glass Onion CD & Tapeworks, on Bainbridge Island in 1991. He closed the business in 2009 when music became easier to download online and before the resurgence of vinyl records.
Jeff spent the remainder of his years as a loving stay-at-home dad to his son, Miles. He never missed an opportunity to volunteer in Miles’s school classrooms, and became the official “book fair guy” at Silverwood School teaching the students how to run a cash register and have fun while helping their customers. Jeff was also the unofficial DJ for school dances and parties. Jeff continued to make music a central part of his life and started an online radio show at www.oneearatatime.com which he ran until his cancer diagnosis in January of 2023.
Jeff will be missed dearly. He was an infinitely generous, kind, witty, hilarious, irreverent, self-deprecating, smart, and loving man who made friends everywhere he went. Jeff is survived by his wife Michelle Crawford; his son Miles Crawford; his parents, Barbara and Kemp Crawford of Bainbridge Island; his brother Jim Crawford (Diana) of Olympia; his sisters and brother by marriage Joele Nyjordet (Brian) of Poulsbo, Stefanie Kimzey (Joe) of Bainbridge Island, and Greg Fisher (Katie) of Eugene, OR; and numerous nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly. Jeff’s family is deeply grateful for the love and support of his extended family, friends, Big Valley Pet Resort in Poulsbo, and Elevate Strength and Conditioning on Bainbridge Island. Any donations in his memory should be made to KEXP radio station in Seattle.
