JoAnn K. Mayfield, 64
JoAnn Karkainen Mayfield of Poulsbo died April 7, 2004 in Bremerton. She was 64.
Mayfield was born to Walter and Florence I. (Spurling) Karkainen in Port Gamble on Aug. 23, 1939.
She married Harry Lee Mayfield Jr. on Sept. 14, 1957.
Mayfield graduated from North Kitsap High School in 1957.
She was employed as a personnel clerk at Bangor. She also worked at Keyport and Bangor for 25 years.
Mayfield was raised on a farm in Poulsbo and was very proud of her “Finnish” ancestry.
She enjoyed working on a farm, like her father. She also loved traveling, especially to Finland and Russia, restoring antiques, decorating her house and playing with her grandchildren.
She was a Protestant.
Mayfield is survived by her sons Harry (Amey) Mayfield III of Bremerton and Byron Mayfield of Fresno, Calif.; daughter Cynthia (William Ballard) of Silverdale; four grandchildren; and her mother-in-law Mildred (Dillie).
A celebration of life will be held at 3 p.m. April 16 at The Stone Chapel in Poulsbo. A cremation will take place at Cherry Grove Crematory and an inurnment will take place at Tahoma National Cemetery in Kent.
The Stone Chapel is taking care of the funeral arrangements.
