“Joe” Duc Van Nguyen, 66
“Joe” Duc Van Nguyen died Feb. 20. He was 66.
Nguyen was born on March 19, 1941, in Hanoi, Vietnam. He emigrated to the United States in 1975 and met his wife, “Karen” Ai Viet Nguyen in Houston, Texas. They were married in 1978 and had three children. The family relocated to West Chester, Pa., in 1997. In 2006, Nguyen and his wife relocated to be near their son in Des Moines, and have a successful business on Kingston Island.
The Nguyen’s warm and pleasant demeanor made them familiar and beloved members of the Kingston community. Nguyen was an active member of Catholic parishes wherever he traveled.
He is survived by his wife, three children, son-in-law and grandson.
A viewing will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today at Columbia Funeral Home in Seattle. Services will be at 11 a.m. Feb. 25 at the Vietnamese Catholic Community Church, 1230 E. Fir Street, Seattle, WA 98122. The family requests memorial donations for a convent restoration in Can Tho, Vietnam, be made out to “Dong Chua Quan Phong,” 23435 27th Ave S., Des Moines, WA 98198.
