John Arne, 92
John Alvfinn Arne of Poulsbo died on April 16.
Arne was born to Norwegian parents Karl and Anna (Myhr) Arne on July 12, 1915. Arne graduated from Lewis and Clark High School in Spokane in 1933 and Pacific Lutheran College in 1937. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Saint Olaf College in 1940.
He married Olga Hugo on June 14, 1943, and settled in Poulsbo, where he worked for the U.S. Navy as a chemist.
Arne was active in the community as a board member for the Education Service District for many years, a volunteer senior police officer, a docent at the Underwater Warfare Museum and as a board member of the Martha & Mary Nursing Home.
After retiring, Al and Olga traveled the world.
They especially enjoyed trips to France to visit their daughter and family.
He is survived by his sons Karl of Seattle, Jacob of Rainier and John and his wife, Kimberly, and their son, William, of Fairbanks; his daughter, Anne Minec and her husband, Herve, of Ore, France, and their sons and families, Francois and Sophie and their children Juliette and Valentin of Hamburg, Germany, Jerome and Stef and their daughter, Angele, of Yerres, France, and Nicolas of St. Petersburg, Russia; his daughter, Lisbeth Lusk and her husband, Gary, of Bremerton, their daughters and families, Kimberly and Erik Manz and daughter, Sylvie of Spokane, and Kellee and Wally Rubio Jr. and daughter, Taylor, of Tacoma.
He was preceeded in death by his wife Olga.
A memorial service was held April 26 at First Lutheran Church in Poulsbo.
