John “Jack” Arthur Wasson of Poulsbo died Nov. 22, 2007 in Poulsbo. He was 82.
Wasson was born to Ralph and Velma (Gause) Wasson in Rocky Ford, Colo. on Nov. 24, 1924.
He graduated from the University of Washington.
Wasson volunteered from the Army Air Corps in the early part of World War II, and his unit was transferred to the Army, where he served in Europe during the war. After graduation from college, he joined the Naval Supply Corps, where he served in Washington D.C., Seattle, Japan, New Mexico, Hawaii, Bremerton, Illinois, London and California. He retired in 1978 after 30 years of service, having fought in three wars and earning three Purple Hearts and one Bronze Star. He then worked as the manager of the Bangor Base branch of Kitsap County Bank and for Vitro.
He enjoyed boating, camping, hunting, competitive rifle and pistol shooting, lecturing on cruise ships and community work. He was active in Arc for many years.
Wasson is survived by his wife Jean of Poulsbo; sons Ralph Wasson of Tacoma and John Wasson Jr. of Port Orchard; daughters Awnie (Joseph) Thompson of Seattle and Wendy (Butch) Marley of San Jose, Calif.; foster daughter Tammy (Michael) Kelley of Louisville, Ky.; brother Ray (Sue) Wasson of Aberdeen; grandchildren Lauren Voller and Zoe and Dylan Marley; step-grandchildren Stephanie (J.D.) Hood, Joelie (Terrell) Woolridge, Josh (Jessica Wallace) Thompson and Catherine Benson; and great-grandchildren Sabrina, Kyle and Victoria Woolridge.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. on Dec. 1 at First Christian Church, 811 Veneta Avenue, Bremerton.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to the Arc of Kitsap and Jefferson counties.
