Julie B. Pietz
June 27, 1969 – Aug. 28, 2016
Julie Bruce Pietz died Aug. 28, 2016, after a hard fought battle with breast cancer.
She was born June 27, 1969 to Ronald and Donna Jean Bruce of Poulsbo. She grew up in Poulsbo, attended school there, and in 1987 graduated from North Kitsap where she played both volleyball and tennis.
She graduated from University of Southern California in 1991 where she majored in English and public relation. After graduation, Julie worked for Ketchum Directory Advertising in Los Angeles, California, Louisville, Kentucky and Kansas City, Missouri.
Julie married James Pietz in August 1993 at the Bruce home in Poulsbo.
The corporate world was not to Julie’s liking and in 1997 she became a personal chef and named her new business “Gourmet Everyday”. This gave her much pleasure and she cooked for many happy eaters including Elvis Gerbach, a quarterback for the Kansas City Chiefs. Julie was featured in Woman’s World magazine in 2000 and Personal Chef magazine in 2003. When she was not cooking, she played tennis three or four times a week.
A move to North Carolina and many regulations caused Julie to stop being a chef and she turned her attention to making and decorating cakes. She called herself the “Cake Chic”. Both cooking and cake baking were self taught and she enjoyed doing both. When she and James moved to Philadelphia, there were too many rules there also and a very small kitchen so she just concentrated on tennis.
In February 2015, Julie was diagnosed with Stage IV Metastic breast cancer. Until April 2016, she played tennis and was able to compete in several tournaments.
Survivors include her loving husband of 23 years James; her three beagle kids, Isabelle, Lola and Macy; her parents, Ron and Donna Jean Bruce; brother John Bruce; favorite uncle Darryl Milton; and many good friends and other relatives.
