Ken Wickert

Ken Wickert, 53

Port Gamble resident Ken Wickert died July 23, 2005 in Port Gamble. He was 53.

Wickert was born to Lester and Patricia Wickert in Bremerton on June 14, 1952.

He married Sharon Stensrud in January 1976 and Sherrie (Cover) Wickert on Sept. 18, 2004.

Wickert graduated from East Bremerton High School in 1972.

He worked for 16 years as a professional firefighter/EMT and fire engine driver/operator at Subase Bangor Fire Department. He also spent 18 years as a volunteer with the Poulsbo Fire Department and achieved the rank of captain. He also worked for the City of Poulsbo as a vehicle mechanic and for Chico Towing as tow truck driver.

Wickert was a past member of the Sons of Norway Vikings and founder and King Viking of the Nordic Vikings. He was an active member in the Sons of Norway and North Kitsap Eagles.

Wickert is survived by his wife Sherrie Wickert of Port Gamble; sons Michael Wickert of Sequim, Daniel (Kalisha) Wickert of Port Orchard and Christopher Cover of Port Gamble; brother Alan Wickert of Bremerton; mother Patricia Wickert of Sequim; first wife Sharon Wickert of Port Orchard; and four grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his father Lester Wickert.

A memorial service will be held at 4 p.m. Aug. 6 at the North Kitsap Eagles Hall, 4230 NE Lincoln Rd. in Poulsbo. Memorial donations can be sent to The Ken Wickert Cancer Fund, c/o American Marine Bank, 26536 Lindvog Rd. NE, Kingston, WA 98346.
