After a battle with Alzheimer’s Disease, Kenneth Robert Nelson passed away on October 8th in Port Orchard, WA at the age of 86.
He was loved and admired by many and will be missed.
He is descended from a pioneer homesteading family who settled in the Poulsbo area in the 1800’s. He was also of Native (Cherokee) American and was proud of his heritages. Everyone who knew him, will say, what an honest, moral, and kind man he was.
He served in the Navy during the Korean War and was stationed aboard the Destroyer USS Wedderburn 1951-53. After an honorable discharge he gained employment at Alaska Lumber and Pulp Company in Sitka, Alaska where he was a foreman. After retirement he returned home to Poulsbo where he lived out his life enjoying his many friends and family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Lawrence Nelson, stepmother Dorothy Nelson, mother, Ruby Pearl Webb and sister, Annabelle Rose Burbick.
He is survived by his children, Colleen Lepak and husband Steve, Lawrence Nelson (Larry), Shirdel Duncan, Marlene VanLeuven, Mike Nelson, and Wade Nelson. His cousin Glenn Nelson, his wife, Sally, and also, nieces, Debi, Denise, Diane, Shelia, Shelley and Kelley.
Grandchildren, Davey, Jeremy, Bryan, Maegan, Evan, Ashley, Amanda, Andrew, Lilly and Zoey. He also had 11 great grandchildren.
His family and friends are celebrating his life with a Norwegian pot luck gathering that is being held at 7200 E. Leighton Ave., Port Orchard, WA 98366 at his daughter’s house on November 2nd at 2:00pm. Anyone who knew and loved him is welcome to come and celebrate this wonderful man’s life.
