Mary Ellen Mahaffey, passed away on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the Hospice of Kitsap County Care Center in Bremerton, Washington. She was born on September 14, 1932 and was 77 years of age. Mary was also know as “Babe” and was the daughter of Alexander and Violet Bagley Napoleon. She attended Kitsap County area schools. She is Native to the Kitsap Peninsula as she is an enrolled Suquamish Tribal member. She was an active member of the Suquamish Community and was employed at the Suquamish Tribal Court for ten years. Known for her playful emails, she could always be found teasing, joking and putting a smile on the face of others around the tribe. In her free time she was a devoted Mariner’s fan, she fancied finding trinkets at garage sales and thrift stores and she loved collecting native American jewelry and art. Mary was a woman of many important roles; she was a sister, daughter and mother, a grandma, a great-grandma and a respected elder, to name a few. She was an orderly woman of enormous strength who would do absolutely anything for you if you needed her. She left a large footprint on the hearts of all those who knew her and loved her and she will be dearly missed. We will always love you! She is survived by her stepmother Bertha Napoleon; sisters Elizabeth Puckett, Marjorie Napoleon, Linda O’Connor; brother, Duane Napoleon; daughter Janet Surratt; sons Robert Bird, Eric Greer, David Greer, three grandchildren, Shanel Greer, Jamie Surratt and Sean Surratt, three great grandchildren, Kory Nokes, Zoie Pemble and Baby Surratt; and many other loving family and friends. She was preceded in death by her husband’s, Bob Greer whom she was widowed by and later Dan Mahaffey; father Alexander Napoleon Sr., her mother Violet Bagley-Napoleon; her brother Alexander; her brother Alexander “Toon” Napoleon Jr., her brother Donald Napoleon and her sister Vivian Mansikka. The family would like to extend endless thanks to the Suquamish Tribe for all of their help, support and love throughout this difficult time. Family and friends are respectfully invited to attend the funeral service on Monday, May 24, 2010 at The Suquamish Tribal Community House at 1:00 PM, 7235 NE Parkway, Suquamish, WA. 98392.
