‘Millie’ Towne Cullimore, 80

Mildred “Millie” Towne Cullimore of Tahuya died Oct. 31, 2003 in Tahuya. She was 80.

She was born on June 19, 1923.

She married Ray Towne and divorced in 1969. She married Darrell Cullimore in 1972.

In 1940, she moved to Bremerton and worked as “Rosie the Riveter” at the shipyard and was a licensed practical nurse.

In the mid-1950s, Cullimore opened Millie’s Hobby Shop in Poulsbo, next to Stone Chapel. She later expanded her business to Bremerton and other areas. She also was well known for her bridal stores, tuxedo shops and a large second hand store in downtown Bremerton. She also had a costume store the in Perry Avenue Mall.

Cullimore loved gardening, travel, boating, garage sales and flying in her son’s Cessna airplane. She and close friend Karen Sell of Poulsbo traveled the world together. Cullimore was a charter member of the Poulsbo Yacht Club and was a member of the Sons of Norway.

Cullimore is survived by her husband Darrell Cullimore of Tahuya; sons Salem, Gary and Ricky Towne, all of Kitsap County; step-daughters Cherie Lynn, Mary Ellen and Kathleen Marie; brother Bob Mirau of Aberdeen; and 10 step-grandchildren.

At her request, there will be no funeral or service. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made in Cullimore’s name to the American Cancer Society or American Diabetes Association.
