Ruth L. O’Malley, 74

Bainbridge Island resident Ruth Lillian O’Malley died March 2, 2005 on Bainbridge Island. She was 74.

She was born to Peder and Marie (Monsaas) Olausen on Bainbridge Island on July 31, 1930.

She married James P. O’Malley on Dec. 30, 1949 on Bainbridge Island.

O’Malley graduated from Bainbridge High School in 1948.

While working as a homemaker and raising four sons, she worked as a seamstress at Messenger House Care Center for more than 32 years before her retirement in 2001.

O’Malley was a member of the Port Madison Lutheran Church and was an active member of Lutheran World Relief.

She enjoyed quilting, crocheting, reading romance novels, writing poetry and listening to country music, especially Vince Gill.

O’Malley is survived by her sons Steven (Margaret) O’Malley of Silverdale, James C. (Troy) O’Malley of Redmond, David (Patricia) O’Malley of Poulsbo and Thomas O’Malley of Bainbridge Island; brother Olaf (Eleanor) Olausen of Mt. Vernon; sister Gerd (Olausen) Saunders of Issaquah; six grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her brother Mangus Olausen.

A memorial service will be held at 10:30 a.m. April 9 at the Port Madison Lutheran Church, 14000 Madison Ave. NE on Bainbridge Island.

In lieu of flowers, remembrances may be made to Port Madison Lutheran Church, Alzheimer’s research or Post-polio disorder research.
