Sheryl Juanita Schaer (Sherry) passed away September 2, 2021 in Sequim, WA at the age of 76. Sherry was born December 20, 1944 in Portland Oregon to Stewart and Dorothy Kensmoe, but moved to Poulsbo, WA at the age of five. She and her family lived on the Hood Canal, where she attended North Kitsap High School, and graduated in 1963.
Sherry began her globe trekking shortly after high school with her best friend Judy. They traveled extensively in Europe and were both featured in a 1965 article in the Bremerton Sun. Sherry eventually met her husband while working for Norwegian American Cruise Lines. During that period of time they traveled extensively to the Caribbean, South America, and the Mediterranean. Sherry and Pierre eventually settled in Switzerland, and in 1971 they both moved to Poulsbo to start their family.
Sherry’s favorite activities included getting together with her family, four grandkids, and friends, getting to know new people, watching the Seahawks, and spending time traveling around the Olympic Peninsula, and Oregon Coast. Sherry was generous with her time and actively volunteered at their family church in an administrative position at Christ Memorial Church and later in Women’s Ministries at Faith Fellowship. Recognizing there were no manicurist locations in Poulsbo, Sherry earned a cosmetologist license and opened the Nail Hut. She truly loved serving and getting to know her customers.
She is survived by her husband Pierre of 51 years, daughter Nicole, son-n-law Danny, and grandson Wyatt of WY, her son Andy, and daughter-in-law Heidi and their three kids Hannah, Connor and Kyle of Beaverton, OR. Sherry also left behind her brother Bruce Kensmoe and sister-in-law Anne of Bremerton, WA.
Sherry was a great mother and always there with encouragement and a laugh. She is greatly missed.
