Sylvia “Foovie” Wilson, beloved mother, equestrian, fashionista and tennis star, passed away peacefully on April 14, 2023, at the age of 87.
Sylvia is survived by a family eternally grateful to have had so much time to spend with her. Married (and divorced) to Harold Moldstad, Jr., she raised two happy boys on a farm on Bainbridge Island. She was always the fun mother and friend that everyone wanted to hang out with.
Sylvia was born to Frank and Stella Wilson in Chilliwack, British Columbia, on October 10, 1935. As a child, she discovered a love for horses and soon had her own to care for, ride and compete. Her passion for horses blossomed and continued into adulthood, owning multiple Morgan horses and competing quite successfully in horse shows throughout Washington State. Tennis also became a huge part of her life for decades, both as a player and as an umpire, having once called the lines at the US Open in New York. Always active, she also enjoyed biking, pickleball, clog dancing, and morning walks. Her impressive eye for fashion was always evident and led to owning a boutique on Bainbridge Island, teaching at the Art Institute, and working at the Seattle Trade Center as a clothing line rep. Sylvia retired in 2000 and moved to Tucson, Arizona to enjoy the climate and activities, making many new friends along the way. Her playfulness and sense of humor was enjoyed by all. She moved back to Seattle in 2016 to be closer to her family.
Foovie is survived by sons Erik Moldstad (Terri Kitto) and Kirk Moldstad (Sarah Wasageshik); grandchildren Kirk (Lucy), Derek (Kelly), Helen, Maggie, Jesse and Brock; and great-grandchildren Gryffin and Thor. Also, by many other family and friends.
We will gather to celebrate her life later in the summer; in remembrance, please donate to your favorite charity.
