Thelma N. Moench, 84
Bainbridge Island resident Thelma Nadine Moench died June 29, 2005. She was 84.
She was born to John and Gladys (Davis) Hilliard in Estherville, Iowa on May 10, 1921.
She married Silven Moench on Feb. 26, 1944 in Spirit Lake, Iowa.
She graduated from Spirit Lake High School in 1939. During high school, she worked for Berkley Fishing Equipment. After the start of WWII, she was trained in sheet metal work. She went to work at the Naval Torpedo Station at Keyport in 1942.
The couple made their first home in the Poulsbo Housing Project. After the war, they moved to Renton Highlands. In 1949, they moved to Bainbridge Island.
Moench volunteered with Helpline and was active in her church, singing with the choir, working in the office and serving with the United Methodist Women.
She was also a member of the Evergreen Singers of the BISCC, the Seabold Community Club and the Bertha Rogers Children’s Hospital Guild.
Moench enjoyed playing cards and other competitive games, taking cruises and traveling around the country.
Moench is survived by her husband Silven; children Carolin Sue Adams (Howard), John Silven (Miki), Donald Richard (Sonya), Alan Thomas and Joanne Nadine Scott; brother Majel of Illinois; sisters Joyce and Melba of Iowa; 15 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
A viewing will take place from 10 a.m. to noon July 7 at The Stone Chapel, 22272 Foss Rd. NE, in Poulsbo. Her interment will be a private service for family and close friends. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. July 9 at Seabold United Methodist Church.
